 Parent Council

The PCS Parent Council sustains five Main Goals:
• Promote the vision of Providence Classical School
• Support the teachers, staff, and the administration of the school
• Create an atmosphere of community among students, families, and staff
• Provide for the practical needs of the school and the host church
• Inform the PCS community about on-going events and activities

Promote:
• Website (www.pcsclassical.org): Our website helps to inform the general public about our school and provides valuable information about classical Christian education. It is in place due to the efforts of several talented members of our PCS family, but in order for the site to be as effective as it is intended to be, it must be maintained. Information updates, pictures, and special effects all make it more informative and interesting.
• Missions: Research and plan outreach activities for our students to participate in. The goal is one in the fall and one in the spring.
• School Previews: Publicize our School Previews (three per year in the spring) as a means to educate the public and recruit new families.
• Classical Education Conference: Set up, decorate, and provide refreshments.

Support:
• Faculty Appreciation: Be a part of honoring our faculty in one of four faculty appreciation luncheons, or provide refreshments for one of the monthly faculty meetings, or help recognize faculty birthdays.
• Library: Catalog books, check books in and out, collect and log fees.
• Study Hall Supervision: Volunteers are needed to read, write recipes or notes to friends, etc. while supervising students as they are quietly and diligently working during their study halls.
• Homeroom Moms/Dads: Facilitate classroom activities and parties by delegating various responsibilities to parents to allow them to be a part of classroom activities. This is an excellent way to stay in touch with your child during the day.
• Graduation Committee: Parents with students in the current junior class meet regularly beginning in January to plan and implement the senior class commencement ceremony and reception.
• Substitute Teaching: See school administration to fill out a form if you would like to be put on the list. Subs earn an hourly rate.

Create:
• Mentoring Families Program: Match incoming Providence families with established ones to encourage the assimilation and adjustment process. Sign up if you’re a returning or new family!
• Spiritual Encouragement and Prayer Support: Join with other PCS parents as we stand in the gap in prayer for our students, faculty and school.
• Student/Family Activities: Be a part of planning and implementing social activities for the school families in order to build a sense of community.

Provide:
• Dad’s Club: Be a handy man on the ready for those, sometimes unexpected facility needs.
• Hot Lunch Program: Assist the hot lunch coordinator with weekly distributions of meals
• Fund Raising: Help collect and redeem Campbell Soup and Box Tops for Education labels, as well as recycle used print cartridges, and cell phones.

Inform:

• Weekly Newsletter: Work with newsletter staff to collect activity and event information from sources: school and community calendars, teachers, coaches, administrators, committee heads, etc. for an interesting and informative weekly newsletter.
• Web site: Submit calendar and event information to website coordinator on a weekly basis.
